DESCRIPTION

This diminutive shop on Phinney Ridge opened in winter of 2006. The intriguing name (can a wind be hip?) drove me to the dictionary, where I learned another definition for zephyr: "Any of various things of fine, light quality, as fabric, yarn, etc." The boutique has touches of shabby chic -- a vintage display case here, a rustic table there. A prominent, white-washed iron grill encases the counter. The grill is actually made of vintage European radiator covers with coat of arms decorations.

Owner Dana Smith emphasizes the quality in her selection of clothing and accessories. She is targeting women in their 20s to early 50s who want progressive pieces. You'll find a few select denim labels including 575 ($184) and Rock Revival ($180 per pair). Of the latter, Smith maintains they have just the right amount of stretch. She carries sleek Polici jackets and pants ($100-$200), Anna Paul silk tops ($114 for a paisley print halter) and some remarkable coats and jackets by Walter. Leather handbags from Sabina, Pellemelle belts with enamel buckles, Cosabella lingerie and sterling silver jewelry by local designer Ursula Burnham round out the offerings.
