At Pulp Lab's new location, limited-edition
clothing and accessories are presented the way art would be, no doubt a
byproduct of owner Kate Pawlicki's degree in art history. Drawing on her
experience in West Coast galleries, Pawlicki began curating shopping
experiences at Pulp Lab's small Dock
Place location in late 2007. After an eventful
year, she moved to Ballard Avenue
this past March.

Nicole Bembry, owner
of just-opened Immortal Dog Pet Supply and Bakery, made tasty treats for humans
before she decided to apply her talent to Seattle's
canines. Today, her homemade dog biscuits are available at her Central District
pet store, along with all-natural food, sustainable supplies and organic toys.

epic winter of 1998, when Mount Baker broke the record for the most snowfall
ever measured in the United
States in a single season, Brendan and Dan
Reid were either strapped into a snowboard or zipped into a hoodie. But every
hooded sweatshirt the snowboarding brothers came across was a wearable billboard
for a big snowboarding company located in another part of the country. Their
belief that our state needed a local option spawned Casual Industrees.

Ambitious Seattle clothing designer Liise Wyatt is ready to wow us. A recent graduate of the New York Fashion Academy, Wyatt is flexing her design muscle by opening a studio in Ballard, collaborating on a soon-to-launch men's collection and pouring herself into her fall 2009 women's designs.

In Seattle, vintage pieces often play an invaluable role in relevant, urban outfits, so well-stocked vintage stores are a necessary local resource. That's why I've been unnerved by the clearance signs at Atlas Clothing, the hip, youthful vintage store on Broadway. Luckily, I can relax; the store isn't closing, it's just moving to a new Capitol Hill location on 10th Avenue.

Krissy Maier, owner of Seattle-based Orange Box Jewelry,
carries her favorite heirloom with her every day: her grandmother's
gold mesh wallet. Maier says that "every time I use the wallet someone
mentions it and I get to tell people about my grandmother. I want that
for other people." To that end, she has made a business of creating
remastered vintage jewelry, each piece with its own story to tell.
