President Barack Obama can take some of the credit for the recent surge in sales of salted caramels, but Lauren Adler, owner of sweets boutique Chocolopolis, has a more fundamental explanation for our obsession with the combination of chocolate, caramel and salt: "It's just good." Below are the salted caramels on offer at the Queen Anne shop, along with a more of our favorite locally available salty-sweet treats.

dog treats and they gobbled them down in no time flat, I was still a

opened in Fremont but later moved to Ballard, is making news again,
with its own line of apparel and accessories. The collection's inaugural products are a pair of slim, black jeans
with a historic moniker and an urbane leather journal that begs to
travel.

In times of stress, I employ one of two strategies. The first is to take my beleaguered body to a spa for a little pampering. The second is to spend time with my girlfriends. So when spa parties came into fashion and married the two, I was thrilled to attend the wedding.
