I love my mom dearly, but no matter how much time passes, I will never shake the disturbing vision of her mid-1970s yoga getup -- a scoop-necked, poly-something, long-sleeved leotard and matching full-length tights (with feet!) in dreary mocha. Thank goodness she was a short and not a venti; on more ample proportions than hers, the effect would have been downright dowdy.

For years, the Northgate outpost of Gene Juarez Salons & Spas has toiled in the shadows of the chain's more polished locations in downtown Seattle and Bellevue.
