The word "farfor" is Russian for porcelain. Ergo, Far4 is a shop in downtown Seattle that carries porcelain from Russia.

I first heard of Swedish superstore H&M after spying one of their stylish yet inexpensive tops in Lucky magazine. I googled the store, and discovered that there were even more cute-but-cheap clothes where that shirt came from.
Unfortunately, with neither a location near me, nor the availability of H&M merchandise online, I was stymied from joining the legions of H&M faithful. So I vowed to visit a store just as soon as I traveled either east of the Mississippi or to Europe, whichever came first.

West Seattle's Body Bar offers clever cocktail-themed massage and skin care concoctions served up in a stylish and soothing environment. The menu tantalizes with facials, body wraps and massages aimed to quench dehydrated, sun-kissed skin and relieve sore, belligerent muscles.

With the world what it is today, we all deserve a little whimsy -- an unexpected pleasure that gives us a giggle. I found my whimsy in the form of the GurglePot, a delightful pitcher in the shape of a fish that actually gurgles and glugs when poured. At first glance, I thought it was just a great-looking pitcher that matched my turquoise Fiesta ware, but after trying it out, I was completely smitten.

Bad things may come in threes, but I have often found that good things come in twos. Such is the case in Georgetown, with the opening in the last year of two sets of adjacent interior design stores in the south Seattle neighborhood.

In the course of my work, I visit a lot of shops, and I'm often tempted by what I see in them, especially during sales. But it's rare that I walk into a boutique, love what I see and -- most importantly -- can afford almost everything in it. Pink Ginger on Queen Anne is one of those rare shops.

Owned by former model Saki Takeuchi, Shaula is stocked with affordable clothing from Japanese designers. The store's concept revolves around girly, feminine styles that appeal to women of all ages. You won't find much casual wear at Shaula, and I'm not sure you'll really find clothing that appeals to women of all ages, but you will find pretty dresses, skinny denim, fun tops and trendy accessories at great prices.

Maybe it's the way the stars have aligned or the particular phase of the moon. Whatever it is, it's causing local folks to plan big fashionable parties on Aug. 22. Three separate events are happening in Seattle that night, collectively featuring a fashion superstar, an award-winning designer, local boutiques and deft-fingered DJs.
