I've developed a serious case of gold fever. During my weekly shopping excursion, I discovered jewelry in varying shades of gold, gleaming beneath glass display cases all over town. The classic, rich look of this precious metal is back in every shape and form from 14 to 24 karat.

Each year I pull out my cheesy French maid costume and wadded up fishnets from a sad little tattered plastic bag and I wonder: 1) Should I get a new costume? and 2) Am I too old for this one? We will address the former question and ignore the latter. In my hunt for the spirit of Halloween and an original costume this week, I found so many it will be difficult tochoose.

I thought I would be bored when I went in search of back-to-school gear, but instead, I found supplies, books and bags worth buying (and the best part is, you don't have to head back to the classroom to use and enjoy these finds). It was still hard work, so after one relentless day of scouting I stopped by Olivine's new Shopping Happy Hour for an attitude adjustment. It made me giddy, not inebriated, and I walked away (in a straight line) with a new cream blush at a discount.

There's no bigger shopping coup than finding jeans that fit and flatter. But this week I'm also excited about exclusive lingerie, teal boots and a quirky little Capitol Hill store off Broadway.
