Walking into West Seattle's Bakery Nouveau on an empty stomach is dangerous. Even on a full belly, it's nearly impossible to escape without at least one of their enormous, twice-baked almond croissants ($3.50). A field of crisp, sugared nuts creates a landscape of crunch on these pastry moons. Just below, paper-thin layers of buttery pastry flake and sheer away to reveal a moist smear of almond filling. "I'll just have a nibble and save the rest for later," you'll tell yourself, only to find, moments later, that you've devoured the entire roll. Don't say we didn't warn you.
What do you crave? Which local restaurant makes the pastry that drives you to distraction? Post a comment below and tell us about it.
