I have long enjoyed the free First Thursdays at the downtown Seattle Art Museum, but I just found out about the free First Saturdays at the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park, which include family art programs.
The calendar listing for April at the SAAM is rather vague, described as an "International Hub" that shows kids 12 and under "the diversity of Asian art in the studio." If that doesn't pique your interest, check out May's event, which is a Korean Kite Making workshop. Both events run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Fuller Garden Court.
Gub and I made it to SAM downtown a few days ago and we took a brief stroll through the incredible Rome show, which even Gub found somewhat interesting. The exhibit is primarily marble statuary, and I was amazed at how much even my toddler and her friend enjoyed looking at the big stone people and figuring out what they were doing ("grapes!").
Those with older children might want to introduce the art through the April 12 program called Sculpt It: What a Relief! at 10 a.m. in Brotman Forum, which will discuss the Roman sculpture and the equally exquisite Ghiberti gates that are now on display. Registration for this event is required.
