NWsource is changing
NWsource.com has been a vanguard product for The Seattle Times Company for over eight years and we are tremendously proud of it. It has been, and it remains, a critical platform for experimentation. Its mission: to connect local buyers and sellers.
In the spirit of experimentation, we are now embarking on the next generation of the Web site, which includes changing the focus and scale of the site. NWsource's mission now will be entirely dedicated to local Shopping and person-to-person Classifieds in the Seattle/Puget Sound region.
NWsource Shopping will continue to offer a fun and relevant conversation with our readers about local retail shops, products, designers, services, sales and deals with information that is unique, meaningful, timely and money-saving.
NWsource Classifieds provides a highly trusted, local platform to connect private parties who want to buy, sell and trade their goods and services.
What is going away?
NWsource will no longer generate or feature content dedicated to entertainment, dining, nightlife, travel, recreation, families, pets and neighborhoods.
Seattletimes.com and seattlep-i.com, the Seattle Times Company network's premier newspaper brands, will continue to serve our audiences and advertisers in these areas.
What is not changing?
NWjobs.com, NWautos.com, NWhomes.com and NWapartments.com will remain as they are: the region's trusted source for listings and information related to the employment, automotive, real estate and rentals categories. These sites will not be impacted by the changes to NWsource.com.
Why is NWsource making these changes?
Unfortunately, we have not been immune to the effects of the volatile national economy. Achieving cost savings during these difficult financial times is a significant driver for these decisions. We hope that by making these changes, we can preserve The Seattle Times Company's core revenue and protect our ability to serve the community through quality journalism into the future.
Are the changes permanent?
At the present time, there are no plans to add entertainment, dining, nightlife, travel, recreation, families, pets and neighborhoods content back into the site.
When should I expect the changes?
As of December 2, 2008, NWsource will scale back some of its existing content and features. The full transition to the new NWsource Shopping & Classifieds will take place in early 2009.
At this time, there are no additional changes expected for NWsource, however, NWsource will remain a place to experiment with innovative ideas for connecting buyers and sellers.
