If you're a fan of Vain's punky style, but aren't vain enough to pay more for a haircut than you would at Great Clips, then listen up: The salon currently employs three apprentices that charge a meager $15 for a cut. These ladies are part of the salon's educational program that grooms future stylists on-site. Students first work as assistants. If they don't become beauty school drop-outs, they get to build their clientele in the groovy Vain salon and boutique, working for cheap. The program is ongoing, and staff members say there's usually at least one apprentice around. You'll currently find Mae, Janae and Bijou. I recommend Janae, a Vain pupil in hot pink pigtails who gave me a stellar up-do for a night out.
