The drab days of winter -- and their associated weather changes, hot showers and dry indoor heat -- can wreak havoc on your face. If your skin is starting to seem like it's been rubbed with sandpaper, don't despair, repair -- at Sweet Skin Spa in the Bryant/University Village neighborhood.
In November, owner and esthetician Jill Helman relocated her growing business from Wallingford and decided the time was ripe for a few budget-friendly services to keep her clients looking renewed despite the stale economy. The spa's "Steal of a Deal" beauty special -- a $152 value for just $50 -- features Helman's signature Inner Beauty Peel, brow sugaring and mineral makeup application.
The 30-minute peel, which uses Vitamin C, glycolic acid and gentle enzymes, is regularly priced at $95 and leaves skin looking luminous. "I want all of my clients to feel as if they've been reborn after they've received a treatment," says Helman. "To me, that means refreshed, calm and glowing."
If you want a little extra glow, consider a spray tan. Helman uses Vani-T's Liquid Sun, an organic-based spray that contains no alcohol, artificial fragrances or other chemicals that may irritate or dry the skin. "[In Seattle], we lack the sun and it's an easy, safe way to get a little color without the harsh chemicals associated with traditional sprays," says Helman. Each tan is $45, but if you buy five, you get two free -- or buy three and get one free. You can even buy a package to share with your girlfriends.
Helman only sells products that are fragrance free (with the exception of essential oils), and made with natural or certified organic ingredients. Brands include Alicia Alexander, Bioelements, Colorscience, Image Skincare, and Kisu Botanicals. Spend $100 or more on products, and you'll receive a free "Fast Results Facial," a half-hour blend of massage and other treatments.
Two other specials of note: For every $25 you spend on gift cards, you'll receive a $5 gift card for yourself. And tell Helman when your birthday is, and she'll send you an email good for $5 off any service or product.
Sweet Skin Spa will celebrate its new location on Feb. 5, from 3 to 7 p.m., with demos, a Q&A with representatives from most of the spa's product lines, 25 percent off most products and a sociable spread of refreshments.
