Is the ghoulish economy killing your Halloween spirit?

When you think back over your lifetime of Halloween costumes, what stands out? Did your dad make you a robot costume out of aluminum foil and a big cardboard box? Did your mom spend hours sewing a cheerleader’s costume? As you got older, did you splurge on a Queen Elizabeth rental or clear the shelves at the drugstore of white pancake makeup and fake blood for your authentically ghoulish zombie costume?
Do you think 2009 will stand out as a unique year in your parade of Halloween costumes? Are you cutting back on your decoration budget? Dusting off the sewing machine and making your own? Shopping for used costumes for your kids? Skipping the colored aerosol hair spray in favor of a more eco-friendly wig option?
Or maybe nothing can dampen your Halloween spirit and you’ll go all-out at whatever the cost?
I’m eager to hear how the economic woes (or recovery?) are trickling down to how we experience the holidays.
Once we hit October, it’s full steam ahead until January. You’d better get your game face on; the holidays are upon us.

Post a commentThis year it seems people are spending more than ever on Halloween, possibly even because of the hard times. Halloween is a chance for some escapism and dressing up in a costume and pretending to be someone else for a night is a good way to relieve some stress.
