Owner of City Custom Tailors is a stitch above

March 1, 2007

Kathy Schultz

At 5-feet 2-inches, I must have most of my clothing altered, or at the very least, hemmed. Thankfully I found Hannah Lee, seamstress extraordinaire and owner of City Custom Tailors on Second Avenue near the Moore Theatre.

Hannah is simply the best at altering denim and reattaching the original hem. The $16.50 charge is a bargain considering you're retaining the fashion integrity on a pair of $176 jeans. Need a long gown hemmed, sleeves shortened on a leather coat, or a suit altered? Hannah does it all, quickly and efficiently. A regular pant hem is $11, a simple A-line dress hem is $16, and lined sleeves on a jacket are $20 and up.

As the saying goes, "A good tailor is worth her weight in gold." Well, maybe I made that up, but it's true.

another great alterations: Executive Dry Cleaners in Belltown. I have use for many years! Love their service! They do dry cleaning, alterations, laundry, and they also offer free pick-up & delivery service! 2521 1st avenue (206) 441-1171. Susan is wonderful! Their price is comparably the lowest in Belltown; which I think they should be charging more for the quality and the service that they provide! Thank you.
A tip for the Eastside dwellers -- Juhee's Alterations near Crossroads Mall in Bellevue. 900 160th NE (425) 747-8594. I found Juhee through a recommendation from a collegue and I have recommended her to many people. EVERYONE has been delighted with her talent at alterations and with her as a person. I even skip the "free" alterations that come at many stores to have Juhee do it -- she is that good.
