Nestled in between Starbucks and the Moon Lodge Spa in Klahanie Center in Issaquah, Naoko Vaughn's hip and cozy boutique comes as a pleasant surprise to Eastside residents with a downtown sense of style. She offers racks filled with trendy treats for women who want to look casual yet put-together. Want to follow the latest fashions without squeezing into ultra low-rise jeans or tummy-bearing camisoles? Try a pair of tush-flattering David Kahn jeans or a sheer baby-doll ruffled blouse by Kenzie. Looking for something fabulous to keep you warm on bone-chilling rainy days? Snuggle into an Esprit faux-fur lined vest — that's reversible, no less.
On any given day you will find nubby Mac & Jac or Kenzie sweaters beckoning from open armoires and sleek Kenneth Cole gauchos alongside sequin spangled Vermoni tank tops on the rolling racks. Dresser drawers overflow with playful Della Q silk totes and shaggy Knit & Pearl scarves. A gilt bowl holds Hanky Panky thongs of every color.
Accessories at Plane Jane are the icing on this cake. Delicate beaded drop necklaces by local designers Lisa Chandler and Cristabella dangle near trays of sturdy silver rings and bracelets crafted by Issaquah artist David Gill. Matisse patent-leather loafer wedges and Pazzo cowboy-boot-inspired slides line the front display. Yummy candles and note cards by Dressed Company, sophisticated leather totes by Handbag Central and Linea Pella rhinestone-encrusted belts are strewn temptingly on tables and dresser tops throughout the store.
Prices are geared toward those who don't mind spending $200 on a shopping trip, but would rather leave with two tops and a skirt than one pair of pants. Go home with a Live a Little washable suede blazer for $85 or a blue and caramel tweed mermaid skirt by City DKNY for $99. Mid-rise jeans by Worn fly off the shelves at $79 a pair, and Ethyl Vintage stretch cords are a steal at $39. Necklaces range from $45 to $90 each, and embellished Kenzie camis sell for $43 apiece.
According to Vaughn, "Fashion should be fun. We already have what we need. It's what we want that brings us joy." This philosophy is evident from the moment you walk into her intimate boutique. It's like shopping from the closet of your most fashionable girlfriend, except you don't have to return the clothes.
