Shanghai nights: Luly Yang's fashion show is part theater, part indulgence

The windows of Luly Yang's boutique at the corner of Fourth Avenue and University Street are showstoppers. Pedestrians pause to gape, and drivers do a double take. I've been prodded into motion from honking horns more than once here. The gorgeous gowns and wedding dresses that grace the windows run the gamut from unbelievably elegant to ethereal and fantastic. This month is your opportunity to see these creations come to life.
Celebrated couture designer Luly Yang is holding her fifth annual fashion show on Thursday, Sept. 21 starting at 6 p.m. at the Jonas Jensen Fremont Studios. The fashion extravaganza, "Passage to Shanghai," promises to be part runway fashion show, part theatrical production and part indulgence for guests. The "story" is about bride-to-be Princess Xi Shi who visits her koi pond and orchid garden prior to her grand entrance in an opulent dress fit for royalty. And of course a gaggle of models will parade in Yang's glamorous, sexy and embellished designs. It's all that plus fancy cocktails, dim sum, a sushi bar, Chinese dancers and a shopping bazaar.
Tickets for the event range from $85 to $250. The $250 level includes VIP seating, a cocktail reception, a gift bag, valet parking and admittance to a VIP backstage reception. The $150 tickets include preferred seating, admittance to the cocktail reception and a gift bag. Finally, the $85 level includes open seating and the cocktail reception. For tickets, call 206-236-6167 or go to www.Lulyyang.com.
