BuiltBurger handcrafts gourmet patties and delivers them to your door

The hamburger has long captured the attention of the American appetite. What makes a delicious burger is a hotly debated topic. Some say it's all in the toppings, others say it's all in the patty. For David Makuen and his wife Rebecca, it's about both combined into one delicious burger. The Makuens have put their money where their mouth is, launching BuiltBurger.com this past June.
BuiltBurgers are handcrafted, made-to-order gourmet burgers using high-quality, all-natural meats, with the fresh toppings incorporated right into the patty. The company has launched with 10 Signature Flavors, ranging from the classic Superb Trio -- a proprietary blend of three cuts of beef, shallots and fresh herbs -- to the crowd-pleasing Pinnacle Bacon Bleu, which incorporates house-smoked bacon and mild Danish bleu cheese. The frozen burgers are delivered to your door via FedEx in a cooler full of dry ice and can be grilled outside, fried on the stovetop or baked in the oven.
David Makuen, a former marketing executive for Ann Taylor and Eddie Bauer, has a self-described passion for grilling and high-quality meats, having gotten his first grill at the age of 12. He left his position at Eddie Bauer in January to work with local chef Robert Joice on flavor profiles for this new venture.
Traditional barbecue fare is often mass-produced for ease, especially if one is feeding a big party. BuiltBurgers, Makuen explains, "takes all the pressure off of traditional barbecue food," providing an easy-to-prepare gourmet meal "that is a fun part of the conversation."
Other BuiltBurger flavors include the Utopia Chicken, a Thai-influenced chicken burger redolent of mint and lime; the heady Magnificent Chorizo with beef, housemade chorizo, roasted poblano peppers, cotija cheese and cilantro; and decadent Stellar Short Rib with slow-braised short ribs and herbs providing all the flavors you'll need. Vegetarian options are in the works, along with 10 to 15 new flavors, some based on customer suggestions.
Prices start at $49.50 for six burgers; smaller-size sliders are also available, starting at 12 for $28. Stop by Pulp Lab in Ballard to sample or purchase BuiltBurgers through Wednesday, Sept. 9; after that, they'll only be available to order online at www.BuiltBurger.com. Shipping is free within Washington state.

Post a commentSince they do not have any information about the source of their meat (local? organic? what feed and/or chemicals have been injected? etc.) or the quality of the meat on the website, why exactly should anyone spend a lot of money to have mystery meat shipped to their home?!? Why did they think that people wouldn't care about the source of the meat that they buy when they are being asked to spend extraordinary amounts on that meat?!?
It's probably road kill.
I met these guys at their Ballard Pop Up Shop. They explained to me that the meat was all natural and no pesticides. I am very particular about what goes in my body and after speaking with then felt very comfortable serving to me and my kids. And....They were AMAZING. Well worth every penny. And so easy
Will buy again. YUM!
Oh my, had some of these burgers at a birthday party this summer, and they are fabulous! I can't wait to try them again. And it does say the source of the meat and ingredients on the website, you just have to dig for the info a little bit. Check out the About Us section. They talk about their values and ingredients. I care a lot about what we eat and what sort of businesses we support and I feel pretty good about these guys and gals.
