Here's a hopeful bit of retail news to counter some of the sad store closings we've been reporting about lately. Izilla Toys, the great little family-run toy store on Capitol Hill is
opening a second temporary -- and perhaps permanent -- location at the Wallingford Center.

Since 1998, Flora and
Henri owner Jane Hedreen has been designing exquisite clothing for kids ages
newborn through 10 that elicit murmurs of "If only they made this in my size"
from the grown-ups who shop there. While the clothes are still pint-sized, Hedreen has added a collection of small indulgences for adults, including cosmetics, soaps and chocolates. The boutique reopened earlier this month in Capitol Hill's newly renovated Oddfellows

National retailer J. Crew did
its homework before deciding to open its new stand-alone kids' store at University
Village earlier this
month. On most days, the outdoor
mall, often referred to as Maternity
Village, bustles with
moms, strollers and kids of all ages. And even during a recession, University Village attracts well-heeled customers who can afford the spendy kids' clothes at Crewcuts.
