Locally designed goods take the spotlight at Bouncing Wall

The Bouncing Wall, a newly opened Queen Anne shop, exudes enthusiasm. Owner Kim Flanery-Rye is ebullient about the goods she carries; local, independent designers are excited to have an attractive space to sell their goods and neighbors have been welcome and supportive. It makes for a pleasant shopping space where you might run into one of the designers dropping off their wares.
The tagline of the shop - "Original-Wearable-Usable-Art" – pretty much sums up the concept of the store. The small, sparely decorated shop has more than 50 artists and designers from the Pacific Northwest, with one Midwestern artist out of Chicago – which we'll excuse because she makes some really cool handmade shoes under the Mohop label. The variety of goods keeps it interesting. You'll find adorable baby items, clothing, bath and body care, art, home goods, jewelry, handbags, cards and underwear.
Some of my favorite things include Sam Trout's screen print tees featuring flora and fauna ($38), onesies from Eight3One with flying monkeys and cute elephants ($22-$26), felted bags by Jamie Irene Design Studios ($75-$135) (especially the bunny backpack for kids), Kimberly Sun Designs hand-tooled leather belts ($75), K D'Angelo semi-precious gemstone jewelry ($95-$195), Derriere Lingerie lacey undies ($22) and camisoles ($32), and Estrella soaps in lemongrass, almond and peppermint oatmeal ($5.50 a bar). It's a great way to buy local from local artists.
