Even though I don't have a car, I get around pretty well. Still there are few things which pose a problem, like buying a 30-pound bag of dog food and schlepping it on the bus.

Luckily, Zak & Zoe, Phinney Ridge's brick-and-mortar "modern dog mercantile," offers up a "Fetch Delivery" service, which not only saves me an impossible trip, but gives me relief to be able to cross another errand off the list and keep the dog in the kibble he craves.

Any product on the Web site can be delivered as long as a $20 minimum order is met, with no additional delivery fee. The only drawback is the service area -- North Seattle -- but it's a fairly extensive range, from Broadview to Lake City to View Ridge, Fremont and Ballard. A detailed map is available online.

Does your dachshund need a hot dog costume or do nature's necessities call for stocking up on kitty litter, liners and a new box? You can find just about everything you need for the furry members of the family, including bowls, collars, toys, treats and food. Dogs get additional choices including backpacks, beds, charms and ID tags, grooming supplies, supplements and more.

For the peeps, you can buy nifty items like a "Savin Up to Clone My Cat Bank" or Petalonia Pillow, which uses William Wegman's new signature fabric design. Other people-treats include books, accessories, apparel such as the Bark Obama Ladies T-shirt, art and jewelry -- the extensive list goes on.

According to owner Nadja Chorba Wiese, deliveries are made on weekdays (no weekends or holidays) between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., scheduled around their dog-walking service. As long as the items are in stock they can usually deliver them the next day or two if the order is placed prior to 5 p.m.

Orders can be placed online or by phone; you can call and set up an account or call in a one-time order. If it's something they don't usually have in stock or they don't have the bag size or variety, delivery will take a bit longer: generally 3 to 5 business days, says Wiese.
