Enjoy a day of shopping, wine and horse racing Friday, Sept. 18 at Emerald Downs' ladies-only Hats and Heels Day at the Races in Auburn.
The event honors the old-time custom when women dressed in their finest for an elegant day at the tracks. Guests are encouraged to follow this traditional attire, so make sure to wear your best heels and don't be afraid to sport a hat large enough to be considered a sun umbrella.
The night begins at 5 p.m. with an exclusive shopping event where guests can enjoy boutique-style shopping, hors d'oeuvres and a glass of Sutter Home wine before the first race begins at 6 p.m.
Among the vendors will be a variety of independent local designers. Purchase a perfect racing hat or headband from Heartstrings Headwear (you can even preorder now and pick up your hat at the event); hand-printed and eco-friendly apparel designed by local artists from Revival Ink; eclectic one-of-a-kind accessories from Lunaversoul; or locally designed handmade jewelry from Dotted Line Jewels. See the full list of vendors here.
After stocking up on the latest fashions, guests can then use the provided racing program and tip sheet to make educated bets and, hopefully, win some extra dough.
Tickets for Hats and Heels Day at the Races are $30 and must be purchased in advance Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Administration Office at Emerald Downs, or by calling 253-288-7705 or e-mailing daniellec@emeralddowns.com. The event is expected to sell out.
Ten percent of the sales will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska to help children and families fighting illnesses.
