NEW BELLTOWN BOUTIQUE: LA ROUSSE
To satisfy her fashionable sensibilities, Amanda Rosenthal opened her clothing boutique in Belltown in October 2005. Concrete floors and simple fixtures are part of the urban, minimalist décor, an ambiance that does little to distract shoppers from the clothes and accessories at hand. To her credit, Rosenthal stocks her shop with clothing in a variety of price ranges from affordable ($36 for a pair of knit gaucho pants) to boutique prices (such as a faux-fur-trimmed tweed jacket by A. Cheng for $426). Styles run from feminine to funky and include lines from Lynn-Linh, Heatherette, Ben Sherman and JJ Turk. She also has Tag denim, handbags by Michelle Franz, Nikki Jaggs belts and locally designed jewelry by Sarah Pauli. Rosenthal thoughtfully set up an area with video games and men's magazines to keep your boyfriend occupied while you shop.

OH! CHOCOLATE

OH! CHOCOLATE COMES TO MADISON PARK
Oh my! Oh! Chocolate is scheduled to open Nov. 21 in Madison Valley, minutes from my house! The exclamation points are deserved — this is the BEST local chocolate, in my humble opinion. The family-owned operation currently has two locations, Mercer Island and downtown Bellevue. Situated right next door to Frenchy's, the new large space will offer more decadent chocolate experiences including a hot chocolate bar, chocolate and wine pairing events, and chocolate dipping classes.
Some of Oh! Chocolate's classic and innovative delights include Tiramisu; an uber-dark bittersweet truffle with chocolate liquor and cream; and the Figaro truffle which has a layer of fig paste and cabernet. The chocolate costs about $30 a pound.

THE CONTAINER STORE

THE CONTAINER STORE OPENS IN BELLEVUE
Whether you want to get ultra organized or just buy cute baskets, this is the place. Along with the more mundane Lucite compartmentalized trays, plastic bins and shoe organizers, there are loads of colorful and fun containers, baskets and shelving for every function and every room in your house. Some of my favorites include the Translations wastebasket and magnetic board covered in Japanese newspapers and magazines ($24.99 each), nylon woven bins in bright colors ($19.99 for two small ones) and suede storage bags for shoes, handbags and other accessories ($7.99-$12.99). The seasonal Gift Wrap Wonderland has everything for creating the perfectly wrapped present, including gift wrap, ribbon, bows, totes and boxes in hundreds of styles and designs.

FANCY PONY LAND
|
Bored with your favorite jeans? Get them customized with leather appliqués. Local designer Lorna Leedy will stitch hammers, ice axes, keys, cowboy pistols, buccaneer or samurai swords onto pants pockets and legs for just $60. The jeans are popular among the outdoorsy adventure crowd such as rock climbers and mountaineers, but Leedy has also customized the pants of rockers including the band Purple Crush. To order, send your jeans along with a check to Fancy Pony Land, 10341 Manitou Beach Dr., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110, or contact Leedy through the Fancy Pony Land Web site.
If swords and pistols aren't your thing, check out Leedy's Fancy Pony Land fall collection at Lipstick Traces. The collection features women's clothing inspired by Egyptian symbols. Leedy embellished T's, tops and skirts with her signature leather appliqués in the forms of gold scarabs, the hawk god Horus and beautifully decorated necklines befitting Queen Nefertiti.
