When I first heard the name of Rocco e Dante, a new line of handbags from local designer and Washington state native Tara Sauvage, it conjured up visions of virile Italian men.

This Sunday, March 9, two of my favorite things come together at the W Seattle Hotel: handbags and wine. From 4 to 7 p.m., local sommelier and social planner David LeClaire will bring together 350 philanthropic and fashionable women for the 2nd Annual Bags & Bottles event, a purse swap and wine tasting to benefit Gilda's Club Seattle.

In the middle of fashion no-man's-land you'll find Olive, a convenient and friendly boutique that opened at the end of December. The fashion haven is sandwiched between a Starbucks and Quizno's Subs in the Redmond Ridge QFC/Trilogy Shopping Centers where owners Michele Fox and Kerrie Lynn Wilton hope to attract suburban Eastsiders from cities such as Duvall, Woodinville and Carnation. The interior is more urban than suburban with finished concrete floors, an open ceiling with an exposed HVAC system painted charcoal gray, sage green walls and prominent iron chandeliers.

Pillows can instantly change the look of a room. They're an easy way to take your decor from winter to summer, quicker (and less work-intensive) than a coat of paint, and far more inexpensive than a new couch. My current favorites are pillows made by local designer Diane Kappa. Her fresh, bright, hand-painted silk pillows will excite a dull couch or wake up a boring bed.

This tiny gift shop is perfectly located in the heart of Madrona, right next to Verité -- the original home of Cupcake Royale, makers of those liberally frosted mini-cakes gaily topped with sprinkles. The charming storefront is just as enticing as the cupcakes, painted celadon green and festooned with flowers.

If you're the type to carry everything but the kitchen sink in your handbag/tote/weekender, these bags are for you. Hardware handbags and accessories, by local designer Lori Naon, feature hardware-grade handles made from materials such as flexible stainless steel, braided vinyl, and hex nuts. They have industrial snaps, grommets and bodies made from nylon canvas (the same fabric as backpacks). These tough materials take a beating and seem to fend off every offense from rain to travel abuse.

nspired by the styles of Alfred Hitchcock's leading ladies, this well-edited shop carries a collection of accessories that pay homage to the poise of Kim Novak in "Vertigo," or the 1950s elegance of Grace Kelly in "Rear Window."

The world of men's briefs is a limited one--you've got your solids and your solids. Sure, you can find more variety with regards to color and prints in men's bikinis and thongs, but they're, well, a little more exotic.

When Aimee Sher found out she was pregnant, she started doodling. Those doodles turned into an adorable line of screen-printed baby T's and onesies. The local graphic designer (who is due any day now) and her husband Sven Bolen began to draw little critters, bikes, and skateboards on tiny tikes' duds. Thus, their company, Eight3One, was born before their baby.
