Many dads, it seems, don't do dress-down very well.
Thankfully, men -- and the wives and kids who love them -- have Queen Anne men's boutique Oslo's.
Owner John McDowell is one of those guys who is genetically coded to
understand and appreciate great style. And he's happy to help even the
most fashion-phobic fathers find their way. I visited him recently to
find out what he recommends giving local dads for Father's Day.

A random sample taken from men who practice yoga revealed where they get their yoga wear: Goodwill -- or their sweats-and-worn-T's-filled bottom drawer. OK, I actually only asked two guys in my yoga class. But after observing men in improvised yoga wear for years during my own practice, I'm pretty sure my survey results are accurate.

"Where are the best noodles?"
It's not a question you're likely to hear in many boutiques in town. But in the short time that Momo has been open in the food-centric International District, owner Lei Ann Shiramizu has been asked that question more than once.

Here in the Northwest, flannel has a particularly potent association. During the early '90s, the uniform of the rugged outdoorsman somehow became the signature shirt of brooding 20-somethings, then a remnant of a bygone musical era. A Seattleite who wore flannel even a year ago risked looking like a walking grunge memorial.
