Seattle's temperate autumns make sockless feet bearable. Yet to step out with bared peds ignores not only the precepts of cold prevention but the season's most inventive accessory. This fall, socks are speckled with flowers, polka dots and argyle prints. They sparkle in an array of metallic threads and circle the ankle or calf with ruffles and ribbons.

At the new Shoefly in Belltown, the writing is on the wall: "New Shoes Beat the Blues." Can't argue with that. And there's enough variety at the fourth location of this locally owned minichain to fill a few closets with new shoes.

Holiday 2006
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me a Holga from OKOK Gallery. The Holga, a cheap plastic camera that shoots medium-format film, is not a precision instrument; you could shoot the same photo with a hundred different Holgas and not get any two shots that resemble one another.
